AGC2022 is offering an exciting field trip program with engaging opportunities for delegates to see the best of what Perth has to offer. 

The field trips are optional and not included in your registration category.

Head over to Rottnest Island via ferry for an all-day excursion to explore what this little island has to offer. The trip will include exploring various lakes, wetlands, Wadjemup Lighthouse and hear about early groundwater exploration, borefield use, desalination, surface water and groundwater relationships on the island. There will also be time to enjoy the natural beauty of Rottnest including time for a swim at the stunning “Basin” beach and take a quokka selfie. Lunch boxes will be provided prior to leaving Perth Convention Exhibition Centre (PCEC) with opportunity to purchase food/refreshments on the island. The ferry to the island will depart from Hillary’s Boat Harbour with complimentary coach transfers from PCEC.

  • Ferry trip across to Rottnest Island
  • Bus transport around the island with commentary
  • Visit Settlement Arcade and Wadjemup Lighthouse
  • Visit to Cape Vlamingh and Fish Hook Bay
  • Hear about surface water and groundwater interactions on the island (lakes, wetlands and damplands)
  • Hear about Longreach Bay Saltwater borefield and island water supply (desalination)
  • Take a swim at one of Rottnest’s best beaches – “The Basin”
  • Photograph opportunity of New Zealand Fur Seals and quokka selfies

This all-day excursion will explore the groundwater features of the northern Perth suburbs and the fringe of the Gnangara Mound, looking at the public water supply infrastructure, garden bores, horticulture use, urban drainage, geothermal use, saltwater intrusion, groundwater contamination and climatic impact on wetlands, and will include a visit to the Water Corporation’s managed aquifer recharge facility. A packed lunch and refreshments will be provided, and for those leaving Perth, the bus will call by the Qantas terminals T3 and T4 at 4.30pm.
